District Chop House, located at 509 7th Street, with a footprint of 5,600 square feet is located between two existing structures which required complicated-underpinning procedures when the basement floor was lowered 18 inches. The restaurant build out encompassed the basement and 1st floor with the addition of a new mezzanine totaling 11,080 square feet.

Major structural modifications preserved this example of downtown historic DC architecture. Renovations to the restaurant/microbrewery included 500 LF of underpinning; the addition of a 1,500-square-foot mezzanine; a complete sprinkler system, I76 tons of cooling, and a 2,500 amp electrical service as well as storm and water lines to serve the structure. High-end millwork and finishes put the final polish on the space.

The exterior façade was renovated within strict accordance to the Historical Committee guidelines. The photos attached reflect the spectacular transformation of the District Chop House project.
