Organization and project management were critical to the timely completion of the Rock Bottom Brewery and Restaurant, requiring around-the-clock schedule for seven weeks.
The facility is a 10,000 ft microbrewery with 418 seats located inside Ballston Common Mall, Arlington, VA. Construction required specific detailed coordination of a fire rated metal-bestos mechanical shaft, which penetrated a movie theater above the Rock Bottom space and ultimately terminated at the roof, 5 stories above Rock Bottom. High-end finishes included 2-mahogany and oak bars along with paneled knee walls. The interior mall entrance was finished with exposed cedar, porcelain tiles and Colorado sandstone, which also accentuated the interior finishes.
Crossection worked to ensure that the tank rooms were built and operational ahead of all other activity in order for inspections to be satisfied and the brewing processes begin in preparation for opening night. A custom designed kitchen hood and exhaust system accommodated unique constraints in the layout and building.
The construction schedule was integrated with the “Movie Theater Projection Room” fit out to avoid opening delays. Interfacing of the full service brewery with extensive millwork & finishes located inside a mall posed several challenging scenarios
