Velocity Grill, Washington, DC The opening date of Velocity Grill, sports and entertainment restaurant, was firmly fixed to the grand opening of its parent structure, the MCI Arena in Washington, DC. Our team faced an additional challenge because MCI Arena construction was going on simultaneously, and it was imperative that its progress was in no way impeded by the restaurant building process. Work completed for this project included reinforcement of the building structure to hold the added mezzanine and installation of a grand 'ice' staircase, made of glass flooring placed on a Helix rolled channel. Other design features included 3,300 square feet of maple panels, attached to the walls with hockey pucks, and floors finished with 3,400 square feet of anti-skid industrial strength epoxy flooring. Walls were covered with a different flooring material, to represent the asphalt surface of a playground basketball court. As a design/build project under very tight deadline, the construction of Velocity Grill required Crossection's full-time on site project management. click on image to enlarge |
