Springfield Emergency Veterinary Hospital,
Springfield, VA
This veterinary hospital needed modifications and additions to its existing facility. In addition to a new surgery room and a modification of the entire HVAC system, the project required the construction of a new Radiation Therapy Room with two-foot thick reinforced concrete walls of proper density rates to pass physicist required inspection. A four-foot by seven-and-a-half-foot lead lined door was also built to contain radiation scatter. This room contained a 12,500lb linear accelerator. Extensive coordination was required for its installation to meet electric, plumbing, HVAC and radiation safety criteria.

A CT room was also built to contain a Philips Tomoscan 60 TX X-Ray unit. The room was completely shielded using lead-backed drywall and lead-lined doors. Complicated wiring was coordinated and installed prior to equipment arrival, saving valuable time.

All work was coordinated so that the animal hospital could remain open for business, with few interruptions. Crossection coordinated directly with the special equipment vendors, eliminating communication gaps and enabling the timely completion of the project.
